Our Philosophy

Have you been referred for a dental extraction or a dental implant?

What should you expect from your implant journey at Surgical Dental Services?

We practice Patient-Centred Care

What does patient‑centred care mean?

Patient‑centred care focuses on the clinical encounter and your needs within the dental consultation and treatment process. It emphasises:

  • Respect for your preferences — what matters to you in your treatment decisions
  • Information sharing — clear explanations, risks, benefits, alternatives
  • Shared decision‑making — aligning treatment plans with your values
  • Responsiveness — tailoring care to your clinical and emotional needs
  • Coordination and continuity — smooth transitions across the treatment pathway.

In your implant journey, this might look like:

  • Exploring expectations about aesthetics, function, comfort, freedom from pain
  • Discussing options transparently,
  • Checking understanding,
  • Supporting informed choices,
  • Preparing you for maintenance and long‑term care
  • Ensuring you feel comfortable, feel heard, have time to discuss and think about your treatment, and feel empowered to share your wants, needs and values so they are taken into consideration through each step of your treatment journey.

We practice Person‑Centred Care.

What Person-centred care means:

Person‑centred care goes beyond the clinical role and sees you as a whole person with a life outside the dental chair. It emphasises:
  • Identity, values, and lived experience — who you are, not just your oral condition
  • Relational care — trust, empathy, partnership
  • Capabilities and context — health literacy, socioeconomic factors, dental phobias, fears, and respecting different cultural backgrounds.
  • Co‑creation of care — we would like you to be involved as active partners in your care, not recipients of care.
  • Supporting your autonomy and wellbeing — not just treatment outcomes.
Person-centred care is rooted in humanistic care that centres around your life, goals, and context.

How this might look like in implant dentistry:

  • Understanding how tooth loss affects your identity, confidence, social life,

  • Acknowledging your fears about surgery or concerns about cost,

  • Adapting communication to your cultural needs,

  • Supporting you to take an active role in your treatment journey

  • Recognising the emotional journey across consultation, surgery, restoration, and maintenance
